Why Families Love It

The Perfect Format for Family Dining

Meze is Made for Family Dining

Ordering lots of small plates and sharing from the middle is how Greek families eat — and it works brilliantly for dining out with kids. Everyone gets to try things, nobody has to commit to one dish, and the table is always full.

Generous Portions, Fair Prices

We don't have a children's menu with half-portions at full price. Instead, the sharing nature of meze means children naturally eat from what's on the table — and the portions are generous enough for everyone.

A Warm, Relaxed Welcome

We're a family-run restaurant — we genuinely enjoy children at the table. The atmosphere is warm and unhurried. No rushed service, no steely stares if someone spills something. Just good food and good people.

Dishes the Whole Family Will Love

Order a few of these for the table and let everyone dig in. That's how meze is supposed to work.

Pork Gyros Platter

Pork Gyros Platter

A guaranteed family hit. Marinated pork, warm pita, chips, and tzatziki. Kids love it, adults love it — it disappears from the table almost immediately.

Moussaka

Moussaka

Layers of beef mince, roasted aubergine, and béchamel — baked to golden perfection. A crowd-pleasing Greek classic that works for every age at the table.

Grilled Halloumi

Grilled Halloumi

Crispy, golden halloumi — simple, delicious, and popular with everyone. A brilliant starter or side dish for sharing around the table.

Spanakopita

Spanakopita

Hand-made spinach and feta pastry. Simple, delicious, and one of those dishes that surprises people who didn't think they were going to love it.

Chicken Gyros

Chicken Gyros

Free-range chicken off the grill, served with warm pita and tzatziki. A lighter, family-friendly alternative to the pork version — equally brilliant.

Baklava

Baklava

A perfect way to end a family meal. Honey-drenched filo pastry with pistachio and walnut. Order one for the table and watch it disappear.

Families Who've Been to Jars

★★★★★

Brought the kids (8 and 11) and they loved it. The sharing plates made it an adventure — they tried dolmades and spanakopita for the first time and wanted more. The staff were brilliant with them too.

The Hargreaves Family

★★★★★

Our go-to Sunday lunch spot now. Grandparents loved the Kleftiko, kids demolished the gyros, we had a glass of wine and didn't feel rushed. Perfect family lunch.

Sunday Family Lunch

★★★★★

Took four generations for a Sunday lunch — great-grandparents to toddlers. The food suited everyone and nobody had to eat something they didn't want. The staff were patient and genuinely caring. Wonderful.

Family Dining FAQs

Is Jars Meze suitable for families with young children?

Absolutely. We welcome families and regularly host groups ranging from toddlers to grandparents. The sharing-plate format naturally works well for mixed-age groups — there's always something on the table that everyone is happy to eat.

Do you have a children's menu?

We don't have a dedicated children's menu, but many of our dishes are naturally child-friendly — the gyros, the halloumi, the pita and dips, and the chips are always popular. Our team are happy to advise when you arrive.

How does meze dining work for a family?

It's actually perfect for families. You order 4–6 starters to share, everyone tries a bit of everything, then pick a main each (or share a couple). Kids tend to love the interactive, pick-and-choose nature of it.

Do you have highchairs?

Yes — please mention you need one when booking and we'll have it ready at your table.

Is Sunday lunch good for families?

Sunday is one of our best days for families. We're open 12:00–16:00, the pace is relaxed, and the full lunch menu is available. Book ahead as Sunday lunches can fill up quickly.
